Review Of Middlesex That Became A Bestseller And Won A...

The development of every person is the journey from childhood to adulthood through the challenging period of adolescence. This period leads to a great transformation of the human body which also has a great effect on the psychological state of a person. Such transformation of a unique intersex person is discovered by Jeffrey Eugenides in his novel Middlesex that became a bestseller and won a Pulitzer Prize. The author fills the novel with numerous autobiographic details, whereas the work traces the story of a biological male who was raised as a girl until the truth is revealed in the period of adolescence. I also have found a variety of moments that resonate with my feelings and experiences of adolescence during puberty that was still far from the hell Calliope faces. The example of the transformation illustrated by Eugenides in Middlesex can be viewed as a change that any person goes through, but that is much more radical in its effect. The main character is introduced in the follo wing first lines of the novel; â€Å"I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974† (Eugenides 8). The rebirth of the main character that is performed in adolescent age is one of the most crucial themes of the novel. Until the age of fourteen, Calliope was a girl, and despite how she faced her differences from the rest of the girls, she did not suggest

The Problem of Human Existence - 847 Words

The Problem of Human Existence Human beings live, and they die. The scary part is death while the amazing part is living. A great mystery that surrounds human existence is death and after death. What is existence? Is there any purpose for existence? These are two major questions for all human beings. A person can be here one minute, and the next minute they are dead. Every person is always seeking answers to these questions, but no one has any answer that is considered to be satisfactory enough ADDIN EN.CITE Vardanyan2011135(Vardanyan, 2011)1351356Vardanyan, V.Panorama of Psychology2011Bloomington, IN 47403AuthorHouse9781456700331http://books.google.co.ke/books?id=q_23H6AtR2AC( HYPERLINK l _ENREF_4 o Vardanyan, 2011 #135 Vardanyan, 2011). It is every human beings objective to find some purpose and meaning to their life. This includes the skeptical persons. Everyone would be more comfortable if they could know what the value of their existence is. It is believed in some circles that human being existence is a divine destiny, created by God. When scientific evidence is presented to creationists indicating that support for evolutionary mechanism, they are quick to answer it is all a trick, which is been used to test their faith ADDIN EN.CITE Bailey2010137(Bailey, 2010)13713717Bailey, David H.Creationism and Intelligent Design: Scientific and Theological DifficultiesDialogue: A Journal of Mormon ThoughtDialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought62-87433CREATIONISMINTELLIGENTShow MoreRelatedThe Existence Of God : Evil1293 Words   |  6 Pages The Existence of God Throughout the years as the human species keeps learning about the world we live in, we are finding out that we are surrounded everywhere by evil. The Ara Pacis Essay Example

The Ara Pacis Essay What is the unique vision or intent of the artist or patron in the Ara Pacis? As you write the paper, you must make the connection between subject matter, style and function by discussing how these concepts are represented according to cultural preference and values. After a century of warfare that led to the downfall of the Roman Republic, Augustus, who had ruled as emperor since 27 BCE, deemed circa 15 BCE a time of peace, frequently called the Pax Augusta. In recognition of this achievement, the Roman Senate voted in 13 BCE to sponsor the construction of an altar dedicated to peace and to the emperor who had made the end of wars possible. The result, completed about four years later, was the Ara Pacis Augustae. This â€Å"Altar of Augustan Peace† is the most intimate imperial monument. It serves as the perfect example of the elegant and gracious style of art cultivated during Augustus’ rule. The altar was also meant to be a vision of the Roman civil religion. Augustus worked tirelessly to revive traditional religious observances. He restored more than eighty of the city’s temples, encouraged marital fidelity, and convinced the citizens to raise larger families. The sculptural decorations of the Ara Pacis display a scrolling pattern of branches and leaves, swarming with animal life, a lush world of flourishing plants and lively animals including birds, toads, lizards, and an occasional snake. It forms the foundation both visually and symbolically for the human figures and scenes in the upper band. In the Tellus panel from the Ara Pacis, a seated matron is seen with two vivacious babies resting on her lap. It is debatable whether the woman is Tellus (mother earth), Pax (peace), Ceres (the goddess of grain), or the goddess Venus. Though her identity is uncertain, she unquestionably symbolizes the fruits of Pax Augusta. All sorts of animals living harmoniously together and the bountiful, blooming world, surround her.

Outdorr vs Indoor Games Essay Example

Outdorr vs Indoor Games Essay Example Outdorr vs Indoor Games Essay Outdorr vs Indoor Games Essay Outdoor Games vs Video Games September 15, 2009 by freelancewriter4u How outdoor games can help your child Remember the days when you were a child. What did you mostly do when not studying? Of course you would be playing outdoor games. The list of the outdoor games that we used to play is unlimited. There are many games that we used to play as a child. Most of these games are outdoor games and can be played only with a group of other children. Apart from just drenching in sweat, these outdoor games taught us a few things too. The very first thing the children learns from outdoor games is to be a good team player, to set up a target and try to achieve it. The child also gets a chance to prove being the star player of the team, one who takes the team to victory in most instances. This helps to develop some leadership skills in the child. Apart from that, outdoor games helps in increasing the stamina and endurance of the child. This is because all the outdoor games require a lot of physical activity. This means that the outdoor games help the child to develop his overall personality. You can get more knowledge playing football in the ground than reading it in the books. Today’s children are different from the children of previous generations. They are more interested in playing video games or sitting hours on the play stations than in playing outdoor games. They are more technology oriented. It is really amazing that the age of the child does not matter at all while playing these games. No matter how young the child is he knows everything about the features of computer and mobile phones but do not know team work due to lack of outdoor games play. The hundreds of channels on television and internet have helped to increase the I. Q level of the children. This has made children much more organized and mature than in our times. But every coin has an other side. These gadgets are addicting. They have made the children so much addicted to PC and PS that they do not enjoy the outdoor games anymore. The fact is that even the parents of these children prefer them playing indoors under the air conditioner instead of playing outdoor games and getting dirty. The problem is that this makes the children introvert as they have no interaction with the other children. This is the main reason why they do not know about being a team player anymore. They lack the stamina and strength of the previous generations. The children of today are mentally active. They are not physically active. We are depriving the child from developing his personality. This is the main reason why these children grow up to become shy and introvert instead of being bold and extrovert.

Word choice is so important on your resume- in a world where every job opening gets a lot of applicants, the words you choose can make the difference between an interview invite and a shuffle past- so choose wisely! Use words that emphasize how great you are, and speak to the skills and experience you want to highlight. To do this, she needs to show her information in a very efficient way. Because she does have a lot of experience, and wants to show how multi-faceted she is a manager, she opts against the standard objective statement and instead uses a summary statement. This sets the tone of the rest of her resume, and gives her a guideline for the bullets she’ll use later, when describing her experience.Speaking of her experience, Kelsey sticks to her narrative by listing her most relevant jobs. She may have others, but these are the ones that showcase her development as a server and manager, which is what she wants to emphasize in order to level up in that area. This way, she has room to talk about her skills, without creating an overcrowded novel of a resume. For her skills, Kelsey doesn’t just list them- she provides brief examples or explanatory notes for each. Nothing too extensive, but enough to show the reader that she has concrete background for each. She should be prepared to discuss these in more depth (or add more examples) in an interview.Kelsey’s lowest priority (in her resume, not in life!) is her education. This is important, but this is a case where kelsey wants to emphasize her skills and experience in action. So while it’s key to note that she has degrees and certification, it’s not necessarily her headline. The key to crafting an effective resume is paying attention to what goes where. Templates and structure are great as a starting point, but you want your resume to make you shine- and that means customizing the doc to put your strongest professional qualities right under the nose of the resume reader. If you’re looking for a food service job, thejobnetwork has you covered. check out the below listings to find a job in your area:Find restaurant server jobsFind restaurant supervisor jobsFind food service manager jobs

Sustainability Consultancy Report Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Sustainability Consultancy Report - Coursework Example The company has a good business model. In fact, the company can be described as a second wave corporation. This comes from the fact that the company, despite seeking to be profitable from the resources it has in terms of timber and employees, seeks to ensure that its operations become sustainable in the long run. In this case, one of the issues that affect the company is the availability of raw materials. In the acquisition of timber, there are many policies and by laws that the company has to abide by to ensure that it does not breach the laws. This eventually impacts on the company’s performance and productivity. Other than that, the company has to deal with the issues of employee turnovers. It is evident that out of the sixteen thousand employees that the company has, the levels of productivity are not full exploited. The company should come up with a way of outsourcing some of the services that it needs. Just as it outsources for supplies, the company can incorporate other aspects of outsourcing to improve its levels of efficiency. For the sustainability of the business even in the years to come, the company should seek to expand into other markets strategically. Currently, being located in Sweden, the company only manages to reach out to a given market niche which is not that wide. In this regards, the company should consider exploring other markets which are most promising in terms of return on investments. Therefore, the company should also embrace emerging technologies.
